The benefit to this model over the carboard box style is: There is far less destruction of the cardboard for a longer life. Much less clean up because the bits stay in the unit. There is much more resistance for the cat to scratch against and less tearing of the toy. They look really cool with the wood grain showing instead of a broken cardboard covering. Felt pads on the bottom to protect your flooring. I've had one of these in my home for over 10 years going strong!
